Supervision and Rules
While students are ultimately responsible
for their own behavior, the administrative, residential and academic staff
members of the MAYA program are there to help students succeed to the best of
their ability. Each staff member is specifically selected for their outstanding
ability to work with adolescents both academically and socially.
Housing
Students live with staff on single-sex wings in Missouri S&T dormitories.
While each student is encouraged to interact with every other student in the
program, students are assigned to living groups of 10-15 participants. These
groups help students adapt to residential life on campus and help to provide a
unique identity within the program.
Student
Behavior
We expect our students to meet the highest standards of behavior, strive to do
their best work possible and:
respect individuals of different races,
cultures, religions, genders, sexual orientations, disabilities and national
origins;
behave in a friendly, cooperative and
responsible manner toward all persons in the MAYA community and in the larger
college and local communities;
attend all class sessions, meals and
activities, and observe all rules for student conduct.
We cannot accommodate students who are unable to
live up to these expectations!
Students will be removed (without refund) for the following reasons:
possessing or using tobacco, alcohol or
non-prescribed drugs;
not attending to their academic work in a
satisfactory manner;
cheating, plagiarizing or committing other
acts of academic dishonesty;
being in a restricted area of campus, or
leaving campus unaccompanied by a staff member;
being in an opposite-sex wing of the
residential complex;
leaving their halls (or the residential
complex) after lights out;
stealing or vandalizing
property;
undermining the safety or well-being of
self or others (including threats);
violation or any federal, state and/or
local law.
Rules are discussed in-depth when students arrive
for the program.
